Downloading USTs

How to download USTs.

Before we go make an UTAU cover, we will need to download a UST of the song we want to cover. Luckily, there are many people in the UTAU community who have their USTs available for use.

This is a pretty straightforward tutorial, but if you like to try making your own UST, click here.

Where to Download USTs

Please refer to the UST Directory for when you need to get some USTs in hand. This is useful for when you don't know where to look for the UST you need; chances are some of the directories may have it! You can also

It should be noted that a lot of USTs are downloaded as archives (RAR files, ZIP files). This is because that multiple USTs are packaged within these archives. They can range from the main melody to the harmonies, or even adlibs.

Loading USTs

If you've downloaded a UST with much success, that's great! The next step is to figure out where to store your downloaded USTs so you can easily access them.

It is highly recommended that you create a UST folder within your UTAU folder, depending on where you installed it. For example...

Inside the UST folder, you can extract your UST files and place them there. Though, to make things easier, you can make a folder of the UST you downloaded for easier organization.

Next, let's open up UTAU. Go to File(F) > Open(O), and pick the UST you downloaded (the main melody, of course). For example, let's say I downloaded a UST of Sayonara Tender (UST made by akem) and I load it into the program.

I pick the main melody of the UST, and I am greeted by this screen:

You may notice that some of the text is in red. This means that the voicebank, resampler, or wavtool that was used for this UST could not be found. It basically means that you don't have the specific things the UST calls for, but that's okay! A simple workaround through this is to load another voicebank from the dropdown menu, and to pick the default resampler from the Tool 2 (resample) box.

Fix those things up and the UST will be displayed like this:

Congratulations! You just loaded a UST in UTAU! From this point, you can either plug-and-play the entire UST and call it a day, tune it to your own style (more on that later), or you just have the urge to make a UST. That's when the next section comes in - Making USTs.
